ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION SHEET

Paper selection:

Revive Silk

• Origin: Australia

• Pulp contents: 15% Post consumer waste, 20% pre concumer waste, 20% mill
broke, 45% sustainably managed forests

• Bleaching process: Mixture of Totally Chlorine Free (TCF) and Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF)

• Environmental certification: ISO 14001

Inks:

The inks we will be using are vegetable based instead of petroleum. The base liquid contain a variety of vegetable oils including corn, walnut, coconut, linseed, canola and soy-bean oils. Some advantages to using vegetable based oils from both an environmental and technical design perspective include:

• Replacing petroleum oil with vegetable oil in printing inks utilises a renewable resource and helps conserve finite petroleum supplies.

• It reduces emissions from >30%VOC to as low as 2 - 4% VOCs.

• The printing press can be cleaned with a water-based cleaner, replacing a high solvent cleaner and further reducing VOC emissions.

• The printed product is easier to de-ink in the recycling process and results
in a less hazardous sludge.

Printing process:

For the production process:
• We will be using computer to plate technology (CTP) which removes the process of making plastic films

• Printing plates are made using a chemical free process

• Water on press is supplied from rain water tanks

• Energy used is from a green supplier

• All waste materials are recycled including; paper off-cuts, paper rapping and used plates. Cloths used for cleaning the press are washed and reused.

In addition to this, Creative Sustainable Design (www.csdesign.org) will take out a Greenfleet (www.greenfleet.com.au) subscription specifically for this order. 17 trees will be planted in Australia making the production of this program carbon neutral.
